Marseille, present day.
Sole survivor of a building collapse that housed a major drug deal gone wrong, Malik a 17-year-old Comorian orphan, is sent to prison having been pulled from the rubble with packets of cocaine hidden in his body. Frail and illiterate, he must now forge a path and find allies in prison where clans reign supreme in order to survive. A beggar among beggars, he rises in power as the prison itself becomes his teacher in crime.
A decade has passed since Malik El Jebenna first appeared on the silver screen. We now reunite the original trio—producer and writers—who brought this extraordinary character to life. Our goal is to offer a new reading of the protagonist, one more in line with the times in a France that has experienced numerous changes over the past ten years, all at once societal, criminal and ethnic.
